HISTORY

United joined the League in 1977, but were known as Galway Rovers until 1981. Taking to League football instantly, they managed to stay in the top flight until 1992, were then relegated, but bounced straight back with the First Division title the next year. First Division soccer again in the last two seasons has coincided with poor attendances, and United nearly went bankrupt .
